Lalani Sanchez moved from Hawaii to San Antonio in June 2013 when her husband (a Sergeant in the U.S. Army) was stationed in Texas, she still starts her sales calls with a friendly “aloha” to give the conversation what she calls a “happy island vibe.”

When not working, Lalani and her husband sometimes enter fun races like the recent 5 kilometer Color Run—which involves spectators showering the runners with colored paint powder. “One ear was green, the other ear was pink, and the middle of my face was orange,” she recalls.

Though she’s a people person who likes to talk to everybody, Lalani says, she’s still getting used to life on the mainland. One thing she does enjoy about her job is the opportunity to talk to people from all over. “I get to hear people with a New York accent, British accent—people from across the seas,” she says. “I’m at home, but it feels like little bits and pieces of the world.”
